1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish

The husband and I have been married for a little over 3 years, and we dated for 3 years before that.  In all of that time, we have been looking for an outdoor activity that we really enjoyed doing together.  We tried many-a-thing, but nothing really quite fit both of us.

Now, if you know my husband, you know that he is Mr. Outdoors.  He loves all things sports, hunting, fishing, and manly.  He grew up doing all of those things, and still enjoys them as an adult.  Which is actually pretty funny if you know me at all.  I never played on a sports team, never did anything remotely outdoorsy, and my only experience camping was in a tent in my best friend's backyard when I was 5 - and I don't think we even lasted the whole night.  So you know see the challenge - something Michael can enjoy that doesn't take me too far out of my element.

Back in April we semi-inherited/semi-bought husband's granddad's bass boat and fishing equipment.  Now if there is one thing remotely outdoorsy that I enjoy, it's spending time on the lake.  And luck would have it that the only free boat ramp on the local lake is less than 5 minutes down the street from our house.  Somehow the husband convinced me to go out on the lake with him one evening so he could teach me how to fish.  I caught on pretty quickly and actually enjoyed it.

I was a little jumpy the first few times thinking the twigs I kept getting caught on were fish tapping my line.  But the husband is a good teacher, and on our second outing, I caught my first fish.  Now, that doesn't sound like a big deal to someone who's been fishing for 20+ years, but to this 28 year old who just learned how, it was pretty exciting!  Please notice that M is holding it - he's my official fish-unhooker since I'm not quite ready to touch them yet.

That's his biggest catch out of our fishing expeditions.  Since then, we've spent many an evening and Saturday morning on the lake catchin' fish.  I foresee much more of this in our future!
